Muhammad Yousuf resigns to focus on coaching and other responsibilities within PCB

Muhammad Yousuf announced his resignation from the Pakistan cricket selection committee on Sunday, citing “personal reasons.” This decision comes after several changes to the committee structure, which was reorganized in March by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. The new setup featured a seven-member committee with equal decision-making powers, eliminating the role of a chairman.

Following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup in May, the selection committee underwent further restructuring in July. Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq were removed, leading to a committee with four voting members and five non-voting members.

In a statement shared on social media platform X,  Muhammad Yousuf expressed his pride in contributing to the growth of Pakistan cricket. “Working with this remarkable team has been a great honor,” he stated. “I deeply believe in our players’ talent and spirit, and I wish them all the success as they pursue excellence.”

The PCB confirmed Yousuf’s resignation, stating that he would concentrate on other crucial roles within the board. In their official statement, the PCB expressed gratitude for Yousuf’s valuable contributions during his time on the selection committee.

His sudden resignation before an important series could raise eyebrows of Cricket Analysts and Pundits about the fact that something is fishy in Pakistan Cricket Board, It could be too early to judge but it seems like Yousaf had issues with the Team selected for Home series against England, Rumors say he wanted some changes but PCB and other officials didn’t let him make that .Still the reason could be anything but this decision can really be a matter of concern especially keeping in view the changes and incidents happened previously in the management of Pakistan Cricket where instability is already the root of chaos happening in Pakistan Cricket right now.

Despite stepping down, Yousuf will continue to play a significant role at the PCB, leveraging his extensive experience as the batting coach at the High Performance Centre. He recently served as the head coach for the Pakistan U-19 team, which secured third place in the ICC U-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 held in South Africa. In November, he was appointed head coach of the national U-19 side by the PCB.
