Ben Stokes’ Participation in Multan Test in Doubt.
The latest cricket news suggests that England captain Ben Stokes’ participation in the first Test of the three-match series against Pakistan, starting on October 7, is now in doubt. Concerns arose on Friday during his first training session in Multan.
Fitness Concerns for England Captain.
Stokes, who had missed England’s entire home series against Sri Lanka due to injury, returned to Multan Cricket Stadium to join the team. However, during net practice, Stokes only batted briefly and bowled a few deliveries, seemingly testing his fitness. Sources close to the England team have indicated that Stokes is not fully fit yet, and further tests are required to assess his availability for the match. With little time remaining before the Test begins, it seems increasingly likely that Stokes may not feature in the first game.
Stokes had previously stated that he intended to play in the first Test in Pakistan, but he would not bowl due to fitness concerns. If Stokes sits out, England will face a tricky challenge in balancing their bowling lineup. Without him, England may opt for a four-pacer attack and could rely on Joe Root for occasional spin, despite him not being a full-time spinner. If Stokes is indeed ruled out, it will make England’s selection process somewhat easier, with Ollie Pope, who captained against Sri Lanka, likely to take over leadership duties again. Dan Lawrence could be pushed up to bat at number six, followed by five bowlers—potentially three pacers and two spinners. Brighton Carse might also make his Test debut in this scenario.

Pakistan’s final playing XI for the opening Test is expected to be decided tomorrow.
As for Pakistan, the announcement of their playing XI is expected either tomorrow evening or the following morning. There is still grass on the pitch, but it may be trimmed before the match, which would aid spinners. Pakistan is likely to include Abrar Ahmed in their attack, while England is expected to field one of their young spinners, given the conditions.
With the Test match just around the corner, both teams are closely watching the pitch and fine-tuning their strategies accordingly.
