Pakistan and England face off at Multan Stadium amidst high hopes and the dew factor challenges.

On a sunny October morning, the second Test match between Pakistan and England commenced at Multan Cricket Stadium. The day started warm, but the nights had recently turned cool, leading to a noticeable dew factor affecting the playing conditions. The ground’s grass was damp by 8 AM, and preparations to dry the field were in full swing. Ground staff used covers to address the moisture, ensuring the pitch was ready for play.

    Anticipation in the Air

As the teams took to the field, a sense of anticipation permeated the atmosphere. With various stakeholders—match referees, umpires, broadcasters, coaches, analysts, ground staff, and players—all eyes were on the pitch. The English players were seen preparing with paint and colored boxes, marking their strategies on the bowling end. The pitch, previously used, was expected to offer unpredictable behavior, creating an air of excitement, fear, and hope. Captain Shan Masood won the toss and elected to bat first for Pakistan, a decision steeped in tradition at this venue.

    Rizwan’s Controversial Act

Amidst the unfolding drama, M. Rizwan’s leadership took a controversial turn as he presented Kamran Ghulam with his Test cap, evoking memories of the esteemed Babar Azam. While the gesture was intended to inspire, some questioned whether it was appropriate given the circumstances surrounding Babar’s recent exclusion from the lineup. Rizwan’s words encouraged Kamran to replicate his domestic success on the international stage, yet the timing of the act left many fans and analysts debating its implications. Despite the mixed reactions, players welcomed the debutant warmly, with Rizwan emphasizing the significance of the cap, symbolizing an important milestone in Kamran’s career.

    Pitch Dynamics and Team Strategies

The pitch at Multan Stadium displayed early cracks, generating enthusiasm among fast bowlers while still offering assistance to spinners. Former cricketer Aamer Sohail and commentator David Gower both noted that the conditions were favorable for pace bowlers, recalling how English pacers had troubled the Pakistani batsmen in the last Test.

With both teams announcing their playing elevens, Pakistan opted for a spin-heavy attack with seven spinners, while England fielded a balanced squad of pace and spin options. As the match progressed, the excitement among the fans grew, despite the stadium’s initial emptiness.
