The upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, set to be hosted by Pakistan, has taken center stage this week as the International Cricket Council (ICC) convenes an important meeting in Dubai from October 18 to 21. In this four-day session, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials will provide a comprehensive briefing on tournament preparations, including updates on construction and infrastructure development.
The outcome of this meeting will significantly influence the fate of the Champions Trophy, scheduled for February 19 to March 9, 2025. One of the key discussion points will be the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) participation, especially regarding matches set to take place in Pakistan. The meeting also includes a board review of the tournament’s overall progress.
Officials from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), currently in Multan, plan to travel to Dubai for the meeting after completing their visit to Pakistan. This follows earlier inspections by three ICC delegations, all of which were reportedly satisfied with Pakistan’s preparations. Despite potential concerns from the Indian board, the PCB remains committed to successfully hosting this marquee event on home soil.
As per the tentative schedule, Pakistan is grouped with India, Bangladesh, and New Zealand in Group A for the Champions Trophy. The BCCI is still awaiting clearance from the Indian government to confirm its participation in the matches to be held in Pakistan.
