The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, has clarified that the board did not terminate its contract with Gary Kirsten; rather, Kirsten chose to end it himself.
Speaking informally with journalists in Karachi, Naqvi stated that the stadium work is expected to be completed by December 15, and he expressed hope regarding the situation with India, saying, “May God bring about a positive resolution.”
He emphasized that he does not interfere in player selection, reiterating that the contract with Kirsten was not broken by the PCB; it was Kirsten who opted to step down. Naqvi further mentioned that no decision has yet been made regarding Aqib Javed, adding that discussions are ongoing with five to seven candidates for coaching roles, as several positions within the board remain vacant.
When asked about the inclusion of Fakhar Zaman in the team, Naqvi stated that it is the selection committee’s responsibility to make such decisions and that he has not directed any player to be included or excluded.
In response to a question about the Champions Trophy, he urged everyone to pray for its success, assuring that the trophy will be in Pakistan and that all teams will come to compete.
It is noteworthy that just yesterday, Gary Kirsten resigned as the head coach of Pakistan’s white-ball team, and the board has accepted his resignation. The PCB has appointed Jason Gillespie as the interim head coach for the upcoming tour of Australia.
