What is the Super Sixes tournament?

According to the website cricket.com, the Hong Kong Sixes tournament began 13 years before the first official T20 match. The South African team, which has yet to win any ICC trophy, has won this tournament 5 times.

In Super Sixes, each team consists of 6 players, including the wicketkeeper. The 2024 edition has 6 overs per innings, with one bowler allowed to bowl 2 overs while the other fielders bowl 1 over each. In this format, 2 runs are awarded for wides and no-balls. If a batter scores 50 runs, they must retire, and the next player takes over. If all subsequent batters get out, the retired player can start their innings again. If the last player remains not out, the innings does not end; that player can use a runner while still retaining the strike.

The 2024 Super Sixes tournament includes teams from Pakistan, India, South Africa, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, UAE, England, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Oman.

Having won their first two matches against UAE and India, Pakistan has qualified for the quarter-finals. The quarter-finals will take place on November 2, while the semi-finals and final will be held on November 3.

The Super Sixes tournament started in 1993, with the last edition played in 2017. After a long wait, the tournament has resumed in 2024. Notably, legends like Tendulkar and David Warner have also been part of the Super Sixes tournament in the past.
