A five-member ICC delegation is set to arrive in Karachi on Tuesday night for a critical four-day evaluation of Pakistan’s readiness to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This visit marks a significant phase in Pakistan’s preparations for the prestigious tournament.
The delegation will thoroughly inspect key venues, including the National Stadium in Karachi, Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, and Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Their assessment will cover stadium conditions, practice facilities, and accommodations to ensure they meet the high standards required for an international event of this magnitude.
Local media reports have raised concerns about delays in the renovation work at these venues. Despite these concerns, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) remains optimistic. A PCB spokesperson assured that the redevelopment is advancing swiftly and that construction companies are expected to meet their deadlines. “These upgrades are essential for modernizing our venues and meeting the expectations of today’s game,” the spokesperson told Cricbuzz.

The Champions Trophy, scheduled from February 19 to March 9, 2025, has been allocated a budget of $65 million by the ICC. While Pakistan is enthusiastic about showcasing its venues, there is ongoing uncertainty regarding India’s participation. As a contingency, a hybrid model similar to last year’s Asia Cup might be considered, where Indian matches could be played outside Pakistan if necessary.
“The stadiums in Karachi and Lahore require substantial upgrades to provide top-tier facilities and exceptional experiences for fans, players, officials, and broadcasters. We are fully committed to presenting our venues as premier destinations, upholding the highest international standards, and strengthening our position in global sports,” the PCB spokesperson added.
The ICC delegation’s visit will conclude on September 21, and their findings will be crucial in determining Pakistan’s readiness to host the Champions Trophy 2025.
