Security and Venue Upgrades Impress ICC Officials
In a significant development, an International Cricket Council (ICC) delegation has expressed satisfaction with Pakistan’s preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to take place in February next year. During their visit to several cities, the ICC delegation lauded the progress made in upgrading stadiums and implementing security measures, as confirmed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
Security Protocols and City Inspections
The ICC team, which included senior officials such as Sarah Edgar, Wasim Khan, and David Musker, visited Karachi and Rawalpindi, both of which were found to have satisfactory security arrangements. The delegation deemed Islamabad secure as well, while the final inspection of Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore is planned for September 21, 2024.
India-Pakistan Clash Adds Geopolitical Importance
According to the draft schedule, all of India’s matches are set to be played in Lahore. This raises the geopolitical stakes for the tournament, as the two cricketing giants haven’t faced each other in a bilateral series since 2012, with their encounters limited to ICC events due to political tensions.
Major Upgrades at Gaddafi Stadium and Hotel Plans
The Pakistani government has approved a massive Rs12.80 billion for renovations at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, National Stadium in Karachi, and Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi. In addition, a 5.8-kanal plot near Gaddafi Stadium has been secured for the construction of a hotel, intended to accommodate both international and domestic teams during their professional commitments.
Practice sessions will take place at the LCCA ground in Lahore, with the historic Bagh-e-Jinnah ground proposed as an alternative venue for the teams.

World-Class Arrangements Promised by PCB
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi reassured the ICC delegation that Pakistan is fully prepared to host a memorable Champions Trophy. He emphasized that the stadium upgrades will meet international standards while offering an enhanced experience for spectators.
“Naqvi emphasized that the stadiums will not only be upgraded to meet global standards but will also offer an improved experience for the spectators.”
Robust security protocols have been set in place, ensuring a safe environment for players, officials, and fans. Naqvi added, “Pakistan is fully ready to deliver an unforgettable Champions Trophy and is looking forward to welcoming teams and fans from around the world.”

The ICC delegation will complete their inspection of Gaddafi Stadium before heading back to Dubai. Their positive feedback on Pakistan’s security and venue preparations has further cemented the country’s readiness to host the prestigious tournament.
