Karachi Kings captain Imad Wasim has won the toss and decided to bowl first against Islamabad United in the 28th match of the Pakistan Super League – 2020 here at the National Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
Karachi Kings comprehensively beat Islamabad United on Saturday at the National Cricket Stadium, defeating the “United” by 4 wickets and registering their 5th victory in as many days.
With 18 required off last 12 balls, Umaid struck a six and 4 to book semi-final spot for Kings. they’re now on the second spot with 11 points in nine matches.
Earlier, Kings’ bowlers dominated and helped their team restrict United to 136-6 in 20 overs within the 28th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 5 at National Stadium.
Sent into bat first, United started off well with their openers Rizwan Hussain and Phil Salt who scored 35 runs together for the primary wicket. Umaid Asif brought a breakthrough for Kings as he removed Rizwan for 17 runs. Skipper Imad Wasim bagged Salt to dent United to 59-2.
Hussain Talat scored 37 runs off 30 balls with the assistance of 4 boundaries to race the score of United but wickets falling at the opposite end kept on building the pressure.
For Kings, Umaid Asif, Chris Jordan, Imad Wasim, Arshad Iqbal, and Iftikhar Ahmed bagged a wicket each.
Kings started the chase confidently with Sharjeel Khan hitting 20 runs within the first over to Muhammad Musa. He raced to 37 in only 14 balls until Akif Javed trapped him ahead.
Soon after Sharjeel’s departure, his fellow partner Babar Azam also dragged Musa’s delivery and only managed to attain 19.
Imad and Delport began to build the inning from there but United bowlers bowled tight lengths, restricting both the batsman to play at a slow rate.
Delport was castled by Shadab Khan, he scored a slow pace 11 off 24 balls. Iftikhar dismissed after scoring only one. Imad tried to chop Zafar Gohar’s wide delivery but unfortunately edged it to the keeper. He made 26 in 34 balls.
The drama didn’t finish as Chadwick Walton departed after hitting a six and a four, giving Kings another scare but the duo of Chris Jordan and Umaid Asif hold their nerves and took the sport till the last over. Umaid hit a six to Shadab within the 19th over and a four to Rumman Raees on the second ball of the last over, helping Kings to defeat two-time champions by four wickets.
Shadab was the pick of the bowlers. claiming two for 28, Zafar, Musa, Rumman, and Akif picked a wicket each. Sharjeel was awarded player of the match for a quickfire 37.
United are out of the tournament and for the primary time within the history of PSL won’t play the knockout stage. Kings will face Gladiators tomorrow at National Stadium within the last league match of the competition.
