Katie Boulter, representing Britain, is set to break into the world’s top 25 for the first time following her impressive performance at the Hong Kong Tennis Open, where she reached her third WTA Tour final this season. The British number one secured her spot in the final with a hard-fought 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 victory over China’s Yuan Yue, bringing her dream of entering the top 20 within reach.
Boulter has already clinched titles in San Diego and Nottingham this year and is determined to uphold her perfect record in tour-level finals when she faces Diana Shnaider on Sunday.
“That was an incredible match,” Boulter shared in her on-court interview, wiping away tears of joy. “She made it incredibly challenging for me. I just had to stay confident, keep fighting, and find a way to win. I feel a bit grumpy and tired today, but I managed to push through, and I’m really pleased with my performance.”
Excited about the upcoming final, Boulter emphasized her desire to conclude the year on a high note. “I want to finish my year with a career-best ranking, which is why today was so significant for me. I have nothing to lose tomorrow, so I’ll just play freely and enjoy the experience.”
Boulter started the match on the right foot, claiming four consecutive games to gain a commanding lead in the first set. Although she led 3-1 in the second set, some unforced errors allowed her opponent to level the score, eventually forcing a third set. However, Boulter regained her momentum, establishing a 4-0 lead in the deciding set and sealing her victory with an ace on match point.

This impressive ascent in the WTA rankings reflects a remarkable year for British tennis, particularly for the new top contenders, with Jack Draper also poised for a career-high ranking following his exit in the Paris Masters against Alex de Minaur.
Draper has climbed to No. 14 in the live ATP rankings after winning his first ATP 500 title in Vienna last week. In an interview with Tennis365 last December during the UTS Grand Final in London, Draper outlined his ambitions for 2024, noting the progress he has made.
“I discuss my goals with my coach regularly,” Draper said. “We always return to the idea that having a vision is important, but it’s the daily effort and commitment that truly count if you want to achieve those aspirations.”
He added, “My primary objective is to reach my full potential. Whether that means becoming a Grand Slam champion or ranking in the top five or top 20 remains to be seen, but I have high hopes for my future. I believe my game is close to that level, but consistency in competition and avoiding injuries are key.”
