Messi Shines as Inter Miami Sets New Points Record in Final Regular-Season Match
Incredible hat-trick for Argentinian Striker powered Inter Miami to a 6-2 victory over New England Revolution, helping his team set a new points record for a regular Major League Soccer season. The win, coming in Miami’s final match of the 34-game season, took their total to 74 points, surpassing the previous record of 73 set by the Revolution in 2021.
Despite already securing the MLS Supporters’ Shield, Miami initially trailed 2-0 after goals from Luca Langoni and Dylan Borrero. However, Messi’s introduction after 58 minutes transformed the game. Following Luis Suarez’s double, which brought Miami back level, Messi played a pivotal role in Benjamin Cremaschi’s goal to put them 3-2 ahead.
Lionel’s first goal came with a left-footed shot from outside the box after a neat combination with Suarez. He followed that with a side-footed finish for his second, and his third goal completed his hat-trick, making it 20 goals for Messi this season.
