The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially announced that Babar Azam has resigned from his role as Pakistan men’s white-ball captain. His decision, submitted on Tuesday evening, has been accepted by the PCB. As a result, the national selection committee has been assigned the task of developing future strategies for Pakistan’s white-ball cricket and recommending a new captain to lead the team forward.
Despite the PCB’s unwavering support for Babar as captain, his resignation reflects his desire to focus more on his batting and contribute further as a player.
“Babar’s decision demonstrates his professionalism and commitment to Pakistan cricket,” the PCB noted. “He believes that shifting his focus solely to batting will allow him to play an even more decisive role in the team’s future successes.”
The PCB has expressed its gratitude for Babar’s leadership and contributions during his tenure as captain, acknowledging the selfless approach he has always taken, placing the team’s interests above his own. Moving forward, the PCB remains committed to supporting him, recognizing his value as a world-class batter and senior figure in the team.
Babar Azam’s Statement:
“Representing Pakistan has always been the greatest honour of my life. Leading the national team has been a privilege, and stepping down as captain is a decision made in the best interest of the team. I am committed to delivering even more as a player and focusing entirely on our shared goals.
“After five memorable years as captain, I believe the time is right to put my full attention on my batting. I’m immensely grateful for the unwavering support from my teammates, coaches, and the PCB throughout my captaincy. While it has been a great honour to lead the side, I will now focus on contributing to the team’s success under the new leadership and guide our preparations for the upcoming season, including the defense of the ICC Champions Trophy at home next year.”
The PCB’s transition to new leadership marks an important phase for Pakistan cricket as they prepare for crucial upcoming events.
